FLECON-6G at the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair 2026

The FLECON-6G project was represented at the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF 2026), held from 5 to 13 September 2026 in Thessaloniki, Greece, through the participation of the SMARTECH ATHENA/ISI research team of the Athena Research Center.
Located at Pavilion 7 – Booth 1, under the Athena Research Center, the SMARTECH team presented its latest research achievements in 6G networks and next-generation digital technologies, developed within the framework of several Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) projects, including FLECON-6G.
The Thessaloniki International Fair provided an excellent opportunity to bring European 6G research beyond the traditional scientific and technical community. Throughout the event, visitors could meet the researchers, learn about their ongoing activities, and discover how next-generation communication networks could enable new applications and user experiences.
A key attraction at the booth was an interactive Virtual Reality (VR) application that took visitors on a digital journey through some of Arta’s most iconic landmarks, including the Bridge of Arta, the Castle of Arta, and the Church of Panagia Parigoritissa.
Beyond offering an immersive virtual tour, the application also serves as a research environment for next-generation data networks, exploring how networks can dynamically adapt to provide the best possible end-user experience. This provided visitors with a tangible example of how advanced connectivity and immersive technologies can come together in future digital applications.
FLECON-6G was showcased alongside other European research initiatives, including SUNRISE-6G, 6G-DALI, 6G-INTENSE and SOVEREIGN-6G, highlighting the broader European effort to advance the technologies and infrastructures required for future 6G networks.
The participation also generated wider public visibility through the media. Konstantinos Togias, a member of the SMARTECH ATHENA/ISI research group, was interviewed by Ionian TV during the Fair, providing viewers with a glimpse of the applications and technologies showcased at the Athena Research Centre booth. The interview covered activities ranging from Virtual Reality and robotics to research on next-generation networks, helping communicate advanced research in an accessible way to the wider public.
Participation in TIF 2026 offered an important opportunity to share FLECON-6G activities, engage directly with visitors, and show how 6 G research and innovation can support new digital services and experiences.
Through initiatives like this, FLECON-6G continues to strengthen the connection between European 6G research and society, raising awareness of the technologies that are shaping the networks of tomorrow.
